JoAnne Gunderson
Miss JoAnne Gunderson, 21, of Kirkland, Wash., won the Championship for the
second time when she defeated Miss Jean Ashley, 21, of Chanute, Kans., 6 and
5 in the final. Miss Gunderson won her first Women's Amateur title in 1957.
Miss Gunderson played 122 holes in 17 strokes over women's par at the Tulsa
Country Club, Tulsa, Okla. Miss Ashley, playing in her first Amateur Championship,
eliminated the defending Champion, Miss Barbara McIntire, 1-up, in the quarter-finals
and Mrs. Ann Casey Johnstone, by 1-up, in the semi-finals.
Miss Gunderson defeated Miss Judy Eller, of Old Hickory, Tenn., 2-tip, in
the other semi-final match. There were 109 entrants and 102 starters.
