Mary Lou Dill
Miss Mary Lou Dill, 19, of' Houston, Texas, defeated Miss Ashley, 5 and 4,
in the final at the Annandale Golf Club, Pasadena, Calif. It was the third time
Miss Ashley had been to the final, and the first time for Miss Dill.
Miss Ashley was the 1965 Champion. Miss Dill took a lead of 6 up in the first
18 holes and never permitted the result to come into doubt.
Twice Miss Dill was taken 19 holes before winning-by Mrs. Nancy Roth Syms,
of Hollywood, Fla., in the first round, and by Miss Peggy Conley, of Spokane,
Wash., in the semi-finals. Miss Dill was 3 down with 6 to play against Miss
Conley, won four of the next five, lost the 18th and won with a par on the 19th.
Mrs. Carner, the defending Champion, was eliminated in the first round by
16-year-old Miss Marianne Cox, of Santa Ana, Calif., 2 and 1. Miss Phyllis Preuss,
of Pompano Beach, Fla., had the low qualifying score of 76-72-148.
